Job Summary:
The Systems Administrator (SA) is responsible for escalation support of network and system issues. The SA works as part of the Service Desk Team to ensure client requests are resolved in a timely manner and that clients are kept informed of the progress and status of their requests. The SA must provide a high level of service to clients, while demonstrating strong customer relationship skills. Additionally, the SA makes sure to keep the Microsoft and VMWare environment secure and up-to-date as technology changes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following duties and responsibilities are a summary of the essential functions of the job. Other duties might be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities could change periodically.
Performs daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes; reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs
Performs daily back-up operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up and stored locally and off-site.
Supports IT operations for Windows Servers in VMWare environment.
Installs new/rebuilds existing servers and configures hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc., in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
Researches and recommends innovative and, where possible, automated approaches for system administration tasks.
Maintains all networks, hardware, and software, updated with required patches and upgrades, to keep the system secure.
Performs regular security monitoring and analysis to identify any possible intrusions or vulnerabilities.
Creates, changes, and deletes user accounts as needed.
Provides escalated support assistance as required from various constituencies, investigating and troubleshooting issues.
Maintains operational, configurational, and/or procedural technical documentation.
Conducts periodic performance evaluations to support capacity planning.
Conducts ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.
Configures CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.
Maintains data center environmental and monitoring equipment.
Checks logs, creates reports, and advises leadership in case of operation challenges.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Attention to Detail – Ability to pay close attention to detail for accuracy and thoroughness in completing work.
Adaptability – Ability to adjust to circumstances and think creatively.
Technical Knowledge – Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 products. Working knowledge of desktop publishing software.
Problem Solving/Analysis – Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to see an issue and use objective analysis and evaluation in order to form a judgment.
Prioritization – Ability to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work in a timely manner. Ability to proactively manage and
prioritize projects and activities with firm deadlines. Ability to work effectively in a team setting and independently on
concurrent processes and projects to meet established goals, deadlines, and quality standards.
Required Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
Minimum of 3 years as a systems administrator in virtualized Windows systems.
Strong familiarity with VMWare and Azure environments, Active Directory, and MS Office 365
Knowledge and experience with enterprise-level virtualization technologies.
Knowledge and experience supporting iOS, Android, and Windows mobile devices.
Knowledge of network architecture, protocols, hardware, and networking software.
Knowledge and experience in configuring/troubleshooting and critical thinking.
Preferred Education/Experience:
Additional certifications in different areas such as Microsoft, Azure, VMware, and network management are preferable.
